Step 1 - Creating a fancy logo (demonstrating layers)
This tutorial will teach you how to create a logo using the layers and other features embeded in Photoshop.

Click on File > New, and, in the box, enter the desired width and height. Select Transparent for the Background, or pick white (The example was made with Transparent Background).
