Step 6 - Adding a stroke
Ctrl + Click on the layer containing the star, in the layers window.

Click on Layer > New > Layer (or press Ctrl + Shift + U). Click on the new layer in the layers window. And than right click on the selected shape in the layer, (workspace) and select stroke with a 5 to 10 px width. Choose the stroke color as seen below.
