Step 4 -
With the rectangle selection still selected, create a new layer.

Go to Select > Modify > Contract, and set it to 2Px.

Your rectangle selection should now decrease in size by 2 pixels.

Now, repeat the gradient process from the last step, but with the lighter gradient moving in an upward motion, and the darker gradient moving in a downward motion.
