Step 2 - Color Dodge Blending Mode
Right click the layer and duplicate it and create another beneath it. We are going to intensify the violent mood of the image turning it hot red. On the new layer beneath the image fill it with a dark maroon red. On the layer containing the original art, change the blending mode to Color Dodge. You can experiment with colors to fit the mood of your piece.
There is an open space on the right so I've filled it with an image of Red Sonja going feral on some orc-type man. This image is already a bit hot, so in this particular instance I went to Image>Adjustments. In Color Balance I pulled more cyan and yellow to match the war picture a bit more and in Hue/Saturation the saturation was pulled down quite a bit. After applying the same Color Dodge technique in the last step the two pictures should match a bit better.
